Description:FosterEd: Santa Cruz County is a new project aimed at improving the educational outcomes of children in foster care. We are looking for volunteers who are interested in making a difference in the Santa Cruz community by serving as educational mentors.
As a mentor, you will provide individual coaching to parents or key adults involved in the lives of children in foster care. You will help them become more actively involved in the child's education, giving the child the support that he or she needs to succeed in school.

A program of the National Center for Youth Law (NCYL), a national non-profit organization that has been working for over four decades to improve the lives of poor children.
Partners with Santa Cruz County Family and Children's Services, Santa Cruz County Office of Education, Santa Cruz County Juvenile Courts, CASA of Santa Cruz County, and other community partners.

ELIGIBILITY: We are looking for adults 21 years and older who have at least a high school diploma. Experience in education, mentoring, and parenting strongly encouraged.
Mission:FosterEd improves the educational outcomes of children and youth in foster care by ensuring each has at least one educational champion with the characteristics proven to support educational success.
Volunteer Info:FosterEd's volunteer mentor program provides coaches/mentors to adults involved in the lives of foster children and youth. Volunteer mentors help increase the capacity of the adult to support to education of the foster youth. Volunteers are required to attend a training, get a background check/fingerprinting, and a TB test (reimbursed by FosterEd). Volunteer mentoring hours will vary from week to week, with an average of 1 hour per week.
