Ongoing goals of the Communicable Disease Unit includes the following:
Conducts surveillance for over 80 diseases and disease syndromes including Sexually Transmitted Diseases and Tuberculosis.
Educates the public regarding behaviors and practices that contribute to illness and loss of health.
Reduces communicable disease transmission.
Investigates reports of disease outbreaks and implement control measures to stop the spread in the community.
Produces quarterly and annual reports about disease prevalence.
Develops and implements plans to respond to Public Health emergencies.
Proactively educates and addresses concerns and inquiries of the news media about communicable diseases.
Educates the public about immunization programs and promote the health of the community.
