|Description:||Probation provides community-based correctional services that are an alternative to incarceration for juvenile and adult offenders.
The Probation Department operates as an arm of the Court and is responsible for services required by the Adult and Juvenile Courts. The department is divided into three divisions: Adult, Juvenile and Institutions. The Adult and Juvenile divisions perform both investigative and supervision functions. The Graham Hill Road office maintains operations of the juvenile facility, with 24 hour care of juveniles ordered by the Court to remain detained. This office also houses the Juvenile Division, support staff, and the Assistant Chief Probation Officer. The Water Street offices house the Adult Division and the Chief Probation Officer. An office is maintained in Watsonville providing departmental services for both adults and juveniles. The Probation Department is responsible for the staffing and operation of Juvenile Hall as well as the Work Furlough and Pretrial services programs.
Each offender on probation is assigned to a probation officer whose goal is to provide opportunity to the offender in becoming a productive, law-abiding citizen while maintaining community safety. Probation officers are sworn peace officers and may arrest those who violate court orders or probation conditions.
The probation department provides services as determined by the law, court orders, the risk the offender presents to the community, and the needs of the offender and family. More information is available by calling (831) 454-3800 or at the website, sccounty01.co.santa-cruz.ca.us/prb/index.asp.

Adult Probation offers a continuum of supervision, from intensive supervision for the highest risk and specialized caseloads, such as parolees, sexual offenders and offenders with the most severe mental health issues, to administrative supervision of the lowest risk cases. In addition to direct supervision and the application of interventions (sanctions) and incentives (rewards) to reduce recidivism and increase pro-social behaviors, the Adult Probation Division contracts with a variety of local service providers throughout the County to provide a comprehensive array of services ranging from substance abuse treatment, housing, reentry planning, cognitive behavior treatment to educational programming. Other programming includes victim services, benefits assistant, gang desistance mentoring and employment services.
The Adult Probation Division also provides various jail alternative programs: Pretrial Services, Warrant Reduction Advocacy Project (WRAP), electronic monitoring and post-sentence custodial alternatives programs.
