|Description:||Administers the University of California Cooperative Extension Youth Development Program, commonly known as 4-H Youth Development. The goal of 4-H Youth Development is to provide young people with life skill education, leadership/citizenship development and to strengthen youth, families and communities. 4-H Youth Development does this through experiential learning opportunities that bridge research and practice through building partnerships for programming and funding, cross-age learning and teaching and through youth-adult partnerships.
Youth obtain these skills through participation in programs that focus on healthy lifestyle education, plants and animals, science and technology, communications and expressive arts, citizenship and civic education, personal development and leadership, consumer and family sciences, environmental education and earth science, and through volunteer and professional development. The audience of the 4-H Youth Development program includes diverse groups of youth, volunteers, professional staff, University faculty, community collaborators, as well as public and private partners. 4-H Youth Development takes place during school enrichment programs, through the development of community clubs, through special interest projects and programs, at school-aged child care facilities, at camps, as well as through independent study in rural, suburban and urban settings at community, regional, state, national and international levels.
