|Description:||The Seniors Council is a community-based non-profit, tax exempt 501(c)(3) organization operating several different programs that provide services in Santa Cruz, San Benito, Monterey and Santa Clara Counties.
ELIGIBILITY: Varies by program. The Area Agency on Aging serves individuals over the age of 60. Project SCOUT serves seniors and low-income families & individuals. The Foster Grandparent & Senior Companion Programs serve low-income seniors over the age of 55. The Seniors Council In-Kind Program is only open to non-profit agencies themselves.
|Mission:||It is the mission of the Seniors Council to enable older persons to function with independence and dignity in their homes and in the community to their fullest capacity.|
|Programs:||The Area Agency on Aging provides planning and advocacy for seniors and contracts with other local non-profit organizations to provide a variety of services including home-delivered meals; congregate dining centers; information and assistance; case management, legal assistance; transportation; ombudsman for individuals living in facilities; adult day care; senior peer counseling; assistance to the visually impaired; caregiver support; Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program, etc. for anyone over the age of 60 in Santa Cruz & San Benito Counties.
The Seniors Council In-Kind Donation Program receives donations of store returns, unsold inventory and floor models from retail outlets and distributes them to non-profits including human/social service agencies, churches, and schools that serve low-income and needy populations in Santa Cruz, Monterey, Santa Clara, and San Benito Counties.
