Through our research, education, and outreach programs, the Center works to create agriculture and food systems that sustain both human communities and the environments in which they live. Offers undergraduate and graduate courses and also sponsors a 6-month ecological horticulture training course through University Extension.
A community support group, the Friends of the Farm and Garden, concentrates on outreach to the community via free lecture series, workshops and classes on a monthly basis. Members receive a subscription to the News and Notes newsletter.

Between approximately June and October organic produce and flowers from the Farm and Garden are for sale at the Market Cart at the campus entrance, in front of the Barn Theatre, on Tuesdays and Fridays from noon to 6pm early June through late October (approximately).

Tours: Both the 30-acre UCSC Farm and 3-acre Alan Chadwick Garden are open to the public daily from 8am to 6pm, with a self-guided tour brochure available at the Farm entrance. Large groups can call 459-3240 to schedule a group tour and for directions to the farm and garden. Facilities:Built in the 1860s for the Cowell Ranch, the Hay Barn was renovated in 2015. The new structure incorporates some of the barnís original building materials anduses the historic mortise and tenon joinery technique to achieve a rustic yet contemporary structure. The result is a beautiful and dramatic signature building with a soaring, spacious interior offering a unique setting for weddings, banquets, barn dances, concerts, conferences, and much more.

The Hay Barn is conveniently located near the main entrance to the UCSC campus and adjacent to the beautiful 30-acre CASFS organic farm, with a walking path connecting the Hay Barn site to the farm. For information on visiting the Hay Barn, please contact events manager Heidi Harris, 831-459-3762, hharris2@ucsc.edu.
