Description:Our vision is a Santa Cruz County in which every community member has some form of safe shelter, and where homelessness is a rare occurrence.

-Create broader and more diverse community engagement on homelessness.
-Improve public understanding of the realities of homelessness in Santa Cruz County.
-Foster community dialogue on homelessness that promotes dignity and respect for all.
-Develop better communication & coordination among those concerned about and/or working on issues related to homelessness.
-Share information about proven, successful models and solutions working both here and in other communities.
-Sustain a diverse community leadership group to carry forward this work of shaping policies and developing resources to reduce and end homelessness.
-Develop a shared vision for change and agreed-upon action steps.
Mission:Our mission is to build the community will to reduce and ultimately end homelessness in Santa Cruz County through community education and collaborative action.
Programs:Lived Experience Group (LEG)

LEG meetings are held every other month meeting the third Monday of the month at 10am at Peetís coffee on Bay Ave in Capitola.

LEG Goals:
-LEG creates a safe place for anyone experiencing homelessness to connect to people who care.
-LEG supports the voices of those currently and formerly experiencing homelessness, advocates for the Santa Cruz population of homeless people, and assures that these voices are heard within the Smart Solutions Leadership Council.
-LEG develops and disseminates a Directory of Services for those who are homeless.
-LEG advocates for specific positions on legislation concerning homelessness.
-LEG welcomes volunteers and interns for the support of LEGís goals and to learn about issues of homelessness in Santa Cruz County.
-LEG provides administrative support for LEG community events to spread awareness about LEG and its resources.

Community Conversations: A Dialogue on Homelessness

These conversations take place several times a year at a local church. Be on the lookout and be sure to join our newsletter to find out when the next one is!

-Discuss our understandings of the current state of homelessness in Santa Cruz County.
-Talk together with local people experiencing homelessness about their circumstances.
-View a short video featuring Santa Cruz area people experiencing homelessness.
-Consider local initiatives addressing homelessness.
-Think together about ways we can bring light to the situation in our community.

Purpose Statement:
Santa Cruz County has an extraordinary shortage of housing for both working families of modest means and for our most vulnerable residents. The Housing Advocacy Network is a collection of organizations in Santa Cruz County dedicated to addressing this housing crisis. We will work together in an active, advocacy network to:

1) build and mobilize broad support for government policies and community solutions that will facilitate the creation and preservation of housing units that serve these populations; and

2) build and mobilize broad support for specific housing development projects whose primary focus is providing housing for these populations.
