|Description:||Prepares handlers and canines to become effective participants in searches for missing people in a wilderness or disaster setting throughout California and the nation.
MBSD is one of only three CALEMA affiliated search dog teams in the state of California
|Programs:||Monterey Bay Search Dogs trains dogs for three different search disciplines:
Wilderness, Disaster, and Human Remains Detection (HRD).
If you are interested in joining us, as a candidate you will spend the first 10 weeks observing and helping with the training of the more advanced dogs. You are welcome to bring your puppy or dog to training. We will assess your dog, do owner runaways, introduction to the alert box, and general socializing of your companion.
|Volunteer Info:||Minimum Age: 15. How would you like to "get lost" for half a day? Volunteers are placed in the woods and found by search dogs and their handlers. Bring a bottle of water, a sandwich and a good book. Radios are provided. Saturday or Sunday from 9am-2pm, it varies each week.
