Foster Grandparents earn a tax-free stipend while serving as volunteer mentors and tutors to disadvantaged children and youth in schools, Head Start Centers and other agencies.

Senior Companions touch the lives of adults who need extra assistance to live independently in their own homes or communities. They serve frail older adults, adults with disabilities, those with terminal illnesses, and offer respite for caregivers. They assist their adult clients by offering companionship and friendship, assisting with simple chores, transportation to medical appointments and adding richness to their clients' lives.

Tax-free stipend averaging $220 per month. It is not income and cannot be used to calculate eligibility for federal and state entitlements like Social Security, SSI, MediCare, MediCal, HUD housing, etc.;
Monthly training session including lunch;
Reimbursement for transportation mileage or bus pass;
A hot meal each day at the work site or a cash lunch subsidy;
Paid Time Off;
Accident and liability insurance while on duty; and
Annual Recognition Luncheon and Gifts.

ELIGIBILITY: To become a Foster Grandparent or Senior Companion volunteers must:
Be 55 or over,
Be able to serve between 15 and 20 hours per week
Have an individual annual income of less than $22,000.
