|Description:||DCARA (Deaf Counseling, Advocacy, and Referral Agency) provides counseling, interpreting and advocacy for deaf, late deafened or hard of hearing clients. Provides assistance in government benefits, housing, insurance, education, employment, and communication access. Provides adjustment services to people who become hard-of-hearing or deaf.
ELIGIBILITY: Person must be deaf, late deafened or hard of hearing, or family of affected individuals.
FUNDING SOURCE: California State Dept. of Social Services, United Way Silicon Valley, various grants.

DCARA-EDD (Employment Development Department) office’s staff assist clients in acquiring the tools they need to obtain and maintain employment. They teach skills involved in writing resumes, filling out job applications and successful Job interview techniques. Our staff also educates employers about deafness and the advantages of hiring deaf and hard of hearing workers and the accommodations that make the work site accessible for deaf and hard of hearing employees.
